Last night (November 17th), PKU-DSLLH 28th was successfully held in the Dishui lake Theater. Professor Yu Tiejun, the director of the Institute of International and Strategic Studies (IISS) of Peking University, was invited to deliver a special lecture titled "Current China-US-Japan Relations and Their Impact on East Asian Security".

At the lecture, Professor Yu Tiejun started with hot issues such as the "Xi-Trump Meeting" in Busan and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's wrong remarks concerning Taiwan, and systematically reviewed the development trajectory of China-US-Japan relations since 2008. He pointed out that after the financial crisis, China-US relations have gradually deteriorated. With China's GDP surpassing that of Japan in 2010, the Asia-Pacific strategic pattern has undergone profound adjustments, and the competitiveness between China and the United States in economic, technological, security and other fields has become increasingly prominent. Professor Yu noted that the Taiwan Strait issue has become the focus of China-US strategic games. In recent years, the United States has continuously challenged the red line through means such as arms sales to Taiwan and high-level officials' visits to Taiwan. At the same time, the long-standing unstable factors on the Korean Peninsula and the undercurrent of disputes in the South China Sea are all important variables affecting regional security.

Regarding China-US-Japan relations in the era of Trump 2.0, Professor Yu pointed out that the strategic competition between the three countries, with China on one side and the United States and Japan on the other, will continue for a long time, but the bottom line of "fighting without breaking" must be adhered to. China needs to maintain strategic resolve, enhance its comprehensive national strength through deepening reform and opening up wider, and at the same time actively implement the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative to promote coordination among major powers and stability in neighboring regions. He emphasized that in the face of long-term competition, a "comprehensive security and emergency response framework" should be established to achieve a dynamic balance between development and security, so as to create a favorable external environment for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

In the interactive exchange session, the audience discussed topics such as "the prospect of North Korea's opening up and the revitalization of Northeast China" and "the China-US-Japan game in the Taiwan issue".

Zhao Yihuai, Member of Party Working Committee of Lin-gang Special Area and Full-time Deputy Director of the Management Committee of Lin-gang Special Area Administration, attended the event and presented a lecture commemorative plaque to Professor Yu. More than 350 citizens attended the lecture on site.
