In the afternoon of June 8, the first session of Peking University Lin-gang Lecture Hall, or Peking University Finance Day, Dishui Lake Emerging Finance, was concluded successfully. Some 100 audiences, including researchers in relevant tech fields, representatives of industrial businesses and investment institutions, representatives by special invitation of the Lin-gang Special Area Administration and representatives of PKU alumni, were present at the venue, while about 9,000 audiences watched the livestreaming.

The First Event of the Lecture Hall

The first session addressed the topic "FinTech and Global Energy Trends in the Context of Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality". By special invitation, Mr. Spencer Dale, chief economist at bp, delivered a lecture. Spencer Dale has been leading bp's global team of economists and energy analysts for a long time and is committed to advising on and analyzing the international energy system, energy transition and the net-zero future of the energy system. Before bp, he served as managing director for financial stability at the Bank of England and a member of the Monetary Policy Committee; before that, he was senior advisor to the US Federal Reserve from 2006 to 2008. In his lecture, Spencer discussed four megatrends in the global energy system by citing the world’s recent energy data, looked ahead to China's energy development, and suggested strategies for low-carbon transition and other issues.

The Peking University Lin-gang Lecture Hall was founded by the Peking University Shanghai Lin-gang international science and technology innovation center (PKU Lin-gang Center), to leverage PKU’s cultural and academic heritage and human resources, share ideas and thoughts with the world, promote humanistic exchanges, and work at the forefront of science and technology for the well-being of mankind.

The Peking University Lin-gang Lecture Hall, supported by PKU and the Lin-gang Special Area Administration, will come up with a regular itinerary in the future. With the aim of building a “First-class International Sci-tech Innovation Platform”, the PKU Lin-gang Center will compare itself with benchmark incubators, deeply fit into the global sci-tech innovation network, explore best practices in key areas, like talent pool, tech research and development, conversion of deliverables, sci-tech finance and industrial optimization, remain focused on core technologies and sectors, nurture and empower high-quality enterprises with professional sci-tech innovation services, support the construction of the national innovation system, and pursue a new development path of R&D institutions that is practical, unique and state-of-the-art.
