The Lin-gang Special Area Administration (LASS) joined hands with Peking University on Aug 23 to launch the inaugural "Peking University Dishui Lake Lecture Hall"(PKU-DSLLH).
This lecture series will leverage Peking University's rich academic resources in humanities, social sciences, and economics and focus on areas like policy economics, humanities, arts, and social welfare. Experts, professors, renowned scholars, and Peking University alumni will be invited each month to conduct in-depth discussions.
Wu Xiaohua, deputy secretary of the Party Working Committee of Lin-gang Special Area, said that this initiative would infuse culture into the youth, empower them to pursue their dreams and grow through cultural enrichment.
During the event, Peking University donated distinguished lecture books to Lin-gang Special Area's youth centers and other institutions to promote cultural exchange between the university and the local community.
Lin-gang Special Area set up six bases for PKU-DSLLH at locations including Dishui Lake Conference Center, Lingang Center, Harbor City Cultural and Art Center, Peking University Lin-gang International Science and Technology Innovation Center(PKU-IICSH), Crystal Innovation Towers, and Dishui Lake Financial Bay.
After the ceremonies, Professor Wang Bo, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of Peking University, Vice President and Provost of Peking University delivered the first lecture titled The Thought of Zhuangzi and the Inner World (庄子思想与心灵世界). Professor Wang Bo started the lecture with a unique perspective on life and a distinctive approach to the inner world. He touched upon themes such as change, embracing uncertainty, and the idea of not being confined by material things. The lecture concluded by harmonizing Confucianism and Taoism, providing a profound and accessible interpretation of the inner spirit of Zhuangzi's philosophy. Professor Wang Bo's wisdom enlightened the audience, allowing them to appreciate the beauty of philosophy.
PKU-DSLLH is another millstone following the unveiling of PKU-IICSH in July this year. Leveraging Peking University's profound academic expertise and resources in the humanities and social sciences, the lecture series will focus on areas such as policy economics, humanities and arts, and social livelihood. Each month, renowned professors and alumni from Peking University will be invited for in-depth exchanges, facilitating the convergence of Peking University's high-quality humanities and social science resources in Lin-gang. This initiative aims to effectively enhance Lin-gang Special Area's cultural image and urban competitiveness.
As the initiator of PKU-DSLLH, PKU-IICSH with strong support from PKU's Office of Party Committee and Presidents, Office of Publicity, Office of Humanities and Social Sciences, Domestic Cooperative Committee Cffice, Office of Alumni Association, Office of Visual Identify Management and Peking University Press, successfully organized the inaugural lecture. Subsequently, PKU-IICSH will continue to coordinate a series of lectures, providing Lin-gang Special Area with high-level cultural content and contributing to the co-prosperity of "technological innovation" and "ideological convergence."
After the event, Vice President Wang Bo, along with 20 Peking University alumni, conducted an inspection of PKU-IICSH and engaged in a friendly discussion with the alumni.
