On September 27, 2024, the World Top-Performing Incubator Conference 2024 was held in Lin-gang Special Area, Shanghai. During the opening ceremony, Zhao Chaofan, Director General of the Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), Zhai Jinguo, Deputy Director of the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality, and Peng Shiquan, Deputy Director of Lin-gang Special Area Administration (LSAA) delivered the opening remarks. Wang Yu, Executive Director of Peking University Lin-gang International S&T Innovation Center (PKU-IICSH), was invited to attend the conference and participate in the “International Innovation Cooperation and Collaboration Signing Ceremony” on behalf of PKU-IICSH.
During the opening ceremony, Zhao Chaofan, Director General of the Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), expressed his recognition of the conference and emphasized the crucial role of technology innovation in leading industry innovation and sci-tech incubator development. The Department of Science and Technology will continue to deepen reform and provide policy support, aiming to promote the quality development of innovation incubators through various implementations, including perfecting top-level design, deepening incubation, and improving the incubation ecosystem. Zhao expressed hope that the conference would bring forth new ideas, motives, and methodologies for global technology development.
In his opening remark, Zhai Jinguo, Deputy Director of the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality, promised that the Commission will actively foster a world-class innovation incubation ecosystem in the future. He highlighted that the focus will be on cultivating new quality productive forces, building high-quality incubators, and accelerating the discovery of promising projects to foster excellent enterprises. The Commission will also work to support the success of more technological innovation projects and teams in Shanghai.
Peng Shiquan, Deputy Director of LSAA, stated in his address that Lin-gang Special Area will continue to regard technological innovation as the core driving force for promoting high-quality development and actively explore the "Lin-gang Model" of innovation-driven development, giving strong support to the construction of high-level laboratories, high-quality incubators, innovative R&D institutions, and sci-tech innovation platforms. Lin-gang Special Area will promote the deep integration of innovation, industry, capital, and talent from all perspectives.
At the conference, multiple pairs of incubators, including PKU-IICSH and Lingang Science and Technology Investment, ITU Çekirdek Incubation Center and Shanghai Lingang United Development, and 22 on Salone and Lingang Pujiang Entrepreneurship and Innovation Park, entered a new chapter of joint incubation efforts. These collaborations will inject new technological vitality from home and abroad into the regional economic development.
In the three-day agenda, the World Top-Performing Incubator Conference 2024 comprised nearly 20 activities, including an opening ceremony, nine featured forums, a WTIF workshop, four project roadshows, and a ranking evaluation. It brought together top-tier incubators from more than 20 countries and regions, cutting-edge technology companies, leading enterprises, and investment institutions to discuss the future development of incubators worldwide.
Among the participants, two elite projects recommended by PKU-IICSH: Tanbang Technology（碳邦科技）and MohaNova（摩诃脉动）, successfully made it to the final selection of the Incubated Stars of WTIF Awards 2024.
