In August 2024, the ceremony to launch the new book
Peking University Humanities Course for Young People (Volume 1) was timed to coincide with the 5th anniversary of Lin-gang Special Area and the one-year anniversary of Peking University Dishui Lake Lecture Hall (PKU-DSLLH). Successfully held at the Lingang Performing Arts Center, the launch ceremony was initiated by Ji Chuanbo, Editor-in-Chief of Peking University Press; Jiang Jing, Minister of the Department of Party-People Affairs, Lin-gang Special Area Administration; Yao Weihao, Head of Office of Science and Technology Development, Peking University and Director of Peking University Lin-gang International S&T Innovation Center (PKU-IICSH); and Jin Weiqi, Deputy General Manager of Shanghai Harbour City Development (Group) Co., Ltd, marking a substantial achievement by PKU-DSLLH. Zhao Yihuai, Member of the Party working committee of Lin-gang Special Area and Deputy Director of Lin-gang Special Area Administration, and Xia Hongwei, Party Secretary and Chairman of Peking University Press, donated books to the educational and cultural institutions in Lin-gang as well as some audiences.
Ji Chuanbo, Editor-in-Chief of Peking University Press, delivered congratulations on the book’s release. He stated that PKU-DSLLH is oriented to providing younger generations with humanities courses by leveraging Peking University’s profound academic foundation and expert resources in the humanities and social sciences. Initiated with the support of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone Lin-gang Special Area Administration, PKU-DSLLH is a collaborative effort involving PKU-IICSH, Peking University Office of Science and Technology Development, and Office of Humanities and Social Science, and enjoying active participation from Peking University Press, Peking University Alumni Association, Shanghai Lingang Economic Development (Group) Co., Ltd., and other relevant offices and departments. Leveraging Peking University's profound academic foundation and expert resources in the humanities and social sciences, PKU-DSLLH focuses on key areas, including economic development, humanities and arts, and social governance. In response to Chinese President Xi Jinping’s instructions on developing Lin-gang Special Area, PKU-DSLLH is a significant effort from Peking University to bear the responsibilities of serving social development. It aims to promote the culture soft strength and competitiveness of Lin-gang Special Area, enhance the humanistic quality of Lin-gang citizens, and lay a cultural foundation for Lin-gang Special Area to advance openness and innovation.
Since the first lecture in August 2023, 13 monthly lectures have been held at PKU-DSLLH by reputable and renowned professors, scholars, and Peking University alumni, with nearly 6,000 audiences attending offline and over 400,000 online views. PKU-DSLLH has provided residents in Lin-gang with a "cultural feast", enhanced the cultural soft strength and competitiveness of Lin-gang Special Area and Shanghai Nanhui New City, and enriched the culture and spirit of the Young City for the Youth, making it the most recognizable cultural brand in Lin-gang.
