On the evening of August 20, 2024, the 13th lecture of Peking University Dishui Lake Lecture Hall (PKU-DSLLH) and the ceremony to launch the new book
Peking University Humanities Course for Young People (Volume 1) (《讲给年轻人的北大人文课（第一辑）》) were successfully held at the Lingang Performing Arts Center. Prof. Yao Yang, Peking University Boya Chair Professor, a professor at the National School of Development at Peking University, and Director of the China Center for Economic Research at Peking University attended the event and shared insights on "
International Economic and Trade Situation and Domestic Economic Trend" (《国际经贸形势与国内经济走向》) with the audience. Over 600 attendees participated in the event in person, with more than 300,000 engaged in the live stream.
Peking University Humanities Course for Young People (Volume 1) is a substantial achievement by PKU-DSLLH. Ji Chuanbo, Editor-in-Chief of Peking University Press; Jiang Jing, Minister of the Department of Party-People Affairs, Lin-gang Special Area Administration; Yao Weihao, Head of Office of Science and Technology Development, Peking University and Director of Peking University Lin-gang International S&T Innovation Center (PKU-IICSH); and Jin Weiqi, Deputy General Manager of Shanghai Harbour City Development (Group) Co., Ltd co-launched the ceremony to release the book.
Ji Chuanbo delivered congratulations on the book’s release and heralded PKU-DSLLH as a high-quality platform for global understanding and cultural sophistication. As the gem of the lectures hosted on PKU-DSLLH,
Peking University Humanities Course for Young People (Volume 1) is published by Peking University Press, aiming to expose young audiences to cutting-edge insights in various domains such as economy, culture, and art. It serves as a bridge connecting readers and Peking University scholars.
Meanwhile, to further spread the cultural impact of PKU-DSLLH and promote humanities courses for young people, Zhao Yihuai, Member of the Party working committee of Lin-gang Special Area and Deputy Director of Lin-gang Special Area Administration, and Xia Hongwei, Party Secretary and Chairman of Peking University Press, donated books to the educational and cultural institutions in Lin-gang as well as some audiences.
During the speech, Prof. Yao Yang discussed the impact of the last globalization and issues in the post-globalization era. He invoked extensive data and comprehensive analysis on export share, industrial transfer, and the development of domestic hardcore technology to argue that "the world is not decoupling from China" and shared his views on China's economic trajectory based on reality. The interactive session after the speech fostered a warm atmosphere of discussion and exchange.
Over the past year, Mr. Wang has participated in PKU-DSLLH events several times. He believes that "The monthly high-standard cultural event in Lin-gang Special Area has greatly enriched my cultural life" and that "many lectures offered by PKU-DSLLH are highly sought-after in Peking University. The various topics covered, such as literature, art, and economics, have provided me with much valuable reflection, and I therefore hope this series lectures will continue." Yao Weitao, the leader of this project, stated "We will leverage Peking University's disciplinary advantages, focusing on domains such as political economy, humanities, and arts to host monthly lectures delivered by renowned professors or expert scholars from Peking University, deepening the exchange between Peking University and Lin-gang Special Area.

Initiated with the support of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone Lin-gang Speacial Area Administration (hereinafter referred to as Lin-gang Special Area, or LSAA), PKU-DSLLH is a collaborative effort involving Peking University International S&T Innovation Center at Lin-gang Special Area, China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone (PKU-IICSH), Peking University Office of Science and Technology Development, and Office of Humanities and Social Science, and enjoying an active participation from Peking University Press, Peking University Alumni Association, and other relevant offices and departments. Leveraging Peking University's profound academic foundation and expert resources in the humanities and social sciences, PKU-DSLLH focuses on key areas including economic development, humanities and arts, and social governance.
Since the first lecture in August 2023, 13 featured lectures have been held by Dishui Lake, with nearly 6,000 audiences attending offline and over 400,000 online views. PKU-DSLLH has provided residents in Lin-gang with a "cultural feast" regularly, making it the most recognizable cultural brand in Lin-gang.
In the future, PKU-IICSH will continue supporting the development of PKU-DSLLH as a cultural brand, using culture as a medium to promote the engagement between young people and Lin-gang Special Area.
Before the event, Zhao Yihuai, Member of the Party working committee of Lin-gang Special Area and Deputy Director of Lin-gang Special Area Administration warmly welcomed Prof. Yao Yang and presented him with a commemorative plaque as the 13th lecturer of PKU-DSLLH.
On the afternoon of August 20, guests including Prof. Yao Yang, Xia Hongwei, and Ji Chuanbo inspected PKU-IICSH. They visited the Party-Mass Service Center and PWA Instrumentation & Service Center for Biomedicine and provided kind guidance on the center's development.
