On October 19, 2023, the third lecture of the Peking University Dishui Lake Lecture Hall (PKU-DSLLH) was successfully held. Yan Jirong, Changjiang Scholar Distinguished Professor of the Ministry of Education (China), Dean and Professor of School of Government at Peking University was invited to deliver a special lecture on the topic Modernization and China's Development (《现代化与中国发展》).

During the lecture, Professor Yan detailed the process of modernization, analyzed the new ideas of Chinese-style modernization, and looked forward to the future of Chinese-style modernization through a series of modern iconic events. He reviewed the development and expansion history of modernization from the historical perspective of civilization forms, and pointed out that Chinese-style modernization is a process of wave upon wave, a process of continuous exploration and innovation. Since the reform and opening-up in 1978, we have innovated political and economic theories, government management theories, and national governance theories. In the future process of promoting modernization, the innovation and experience of Chinese modernization should not be discarded, but continued and carried forward.

The leadership team of Lin-gang Special Area Administration (LSAA) attended this event. Representatives from various departments of LSAA, various enterprises and institutions, towns, development entities, regional party building units, community villages, Peking University Shanghai Lin-gang International Science and Technology Innovation Center (PKU-IICSH), as well as representatives from relevant key enterprises, scientific and technological innovation enterprises, professional service organizations, united front workers, Peking University Alumni Association, enthusiastic masses, and others totaling more than 400 people participated in the event.

Initiated with the support of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone Lin-gang Speacial Area Administration (hereinafter referred to as Lin-gang Special Area, or LSAA), Peking University Dishui Lake Lecture Hall (PKU-DSLLH) is a collaborative effort involving Peking University Intertional Innovational Center, Lin-gang Special Area, China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone (PKU-IICSH), Peking University Office of Science and Technology Development, and Office of Humanities and Social Science, and enjoying an active participation from Peking University Press, Peking University Alumni Association, and other relevant offices and departments. Leveraging Peking University's profound academic foundation and expert resources in the humanities and social sciences, PKU-DSLLH focuses on key areas including economic development, humanities and arts, and social governance.

Since August 2023, PKU-DSLLH has been hosting monthly lectures featuring renowned professors or expert scholars from Peking University, who provide specialized lectures and engage in in-depth discussions with residents in Lin-gang. This initiative aims to facilitate the concentration of high-quality humanities and social science resources from Peking University in Lingang, effectively enhancing the cultural image and urban competitiveness of the Lin-gang Special Area.
