On the morning of April 3rd, 2024, the second session of Peking University Shanghai Lin-gang International Science and Technology Innovation Center (PKU-IICSH) Frontier Industry Special Lecture was successfully held at the Dishui Cloud Hall. This lecture featured Professor Cheng Chengqi, member of the Technical Advisory Committee of the National Air Traffic Control Commission, Professor at the Aeronautics & Astronautics Department of College of Engineering at Peking University, Director and Chief Scientist of Low-Altitude Intelligent Networks Innovation Center at PKU-IICSH, sharing insights on "Understanding the New Quality Productive Forces of Low-Altitude Economy and Suggestions for its Development."

During the lecture, Professor Cheng Chengqi shared his insights on how the low-altitude economy, as a typical representative of new quality productive forces, should better grasp new development opportunities, tackle challenges, and seize the trillion-dollar economic trend. Professor Cheng introduced the current development condition of the low-altitude economy and the prospect for a comprehensive low-altitude service system where "everyone uses drones, and every household enjoys drone services."

Professor Cheng believes that low-altitude economy can ignite a new economic engine, and new consumption, new investments, and new exports is emerging. The construction of low-altitude intelligent networking and its unified high-precision three-dimensional traffic map is an important cornerstone for meeting the challenges of trillion-dollar economic opportunities. Professor Cheng's team at Peking University has made significant progress, leveraging key theories and precise technologies to propose the GeoSOT Earth Stereoscopic Grid and Coding Theory System for global space(地球全域空间的GeoSOT地球立体网格与编码理论体系). The team has developed three international standards, five national standards, and nine industry standards. With the support of low-altitude intelligent network, the team has achieved important breakthroughs in "Beidou low-altitude intelligent networking unmanned autonomous flight technology", established important enterprises including "Beidou-Fuxi low-altitude navigation", and implemented important applications for "Luogang unmanned full-space system."

Professor Cheng is full of confidence in developing low-altitude economy in Lin-gang Special Area. Lin-gang has natural advantages in policy support, geographical space, technical talent, and so on. It is expected that the Low-Altitude Intelligent Networks Innovation Center at PKU-IICSH will contribute more new achievements in Lin-gang, benefiting from and returning to Lin-gang.

In the Q&A session after the lecture, the on-site guests engaged in lively communication and discussion on relevant topics, and Professor Cheng responded and answered respectively.

The Second Session of  PKU-IICSH Frontier Industry Special Lecture: Low-Altitude Economy is guided by the Division of High-Tech Industries and Science and Technology Innovation of Lin-gang Special Area Administration (LSAA), and jointly organized by PKU-IICSH and Investment Promotion Service Center of Lin-gang Special Area. It is co-sponsored by Hefei Beidou Fuxi Technology Co., Ltd., and Yanyuan Fund. About 100 guests from the LSAA, universities and research institutions, park development entities, and enterprises participated in the event.

Currently, as representatives of new quality productive forces and strategic emerging industries, the low-altitude economy is increasingly becoming a "new track" for national concerted development. Relying on the advantages of Peking University in Industry-University-Research, the PKU-IICSH, with the support of the innovative ecological environment of Lin-gang Special Area which emphasizes "opening up based on rules and related institutions needs greater breakthroughs, and core functions need greater enhancement," has invited Professor Cheng Chengqi from Peking University to lead the establishment of the "Low-Altitude Intelligent Networks Innovation Center". This move aims to seize the "commanding heights" of the trillion-dollar low-altitude economy's underlying common technology of low-altitude intelligent interconnection networks and strive to create a demonstration leading area for low-altitude three-dimensional transportation infrastructure in Shanghai Lin-gang Special Area. Additionally, it aims to build a high-quality incubator for the low-altitude intelligent interconnection industry, accelerating the development of China's low-altitude economy industry and its international leading position.
