On July 27, 2024, the inaugural "China Ageing Development Foundation Mathematical Intelligence Assistance for Seniors Conference" hosted by the China Ageing Development Foundation and undertaken by Smart Health Technology Engineering Center of Peking University Lin-gang International S&T Innovation Center (PKU-IICSH) was successfully held at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Beijing. The conference, which centered on "Mathematical Intelligence Assistance for Seniors," aimed to explore how the integration of technological and public welfare innovations can advance the application of mathematical intelligence in developing the ageing industry and silver economy (namely economy sectors that are related to senior citizens, such as healthcare, tourism, and financial consultancy to optimize services and products for older people).
Yu Jianwei, Chairman of the China Ageing Development Foundation and former Director of the Internal Affairs Office of the Committee for Internal and Judicial Affairs of National People's Congress (NPC), delivered the opening speech. Multiple leaders attended the conference and gave their speeches. Among them are Li Baoku, former Party Member and Vice Minister of Civil Affairs, and the former standing Deputy Director of the office of the National Working Commission on Aging, Lü Shiming, Member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Vice President of the seventh presidium of China Disabled Persons' Federation, Yang Zhiming, Special Researcher at Counselors' Office of the State Council, former Vice Minister of Human Resources and Social Security and Deputy Secretary of Party Committee, and Hu Jianbo, Vice President of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT).
Chen Huilu, Executive Director of the Smart Health Technology Engineering Center of PKU-IICSH, gave a keynote speech titled Mathematical Intelligence in Traditional Chinese Medicine helps Middle-aged and Elderly Health Management (《数智中医助力中老年健康管理》). He first introduced the achievements and positioning of PKU-IICSH and the Smart Health Technology Engineering Center in technology innovation and then highlighted that leveraging Peking University's expertise in artificial intelligence, medicine, and new materials can effectively address challenges in traditional Chinese medicine, supporting its transformation towards standardization, normalization, digitalization, and intelligence.
During the subsequent roundtable discussion on
Elderly-oriented Design of Mathematical Intelligence Products (《数智产品适老化》) moderated by Wang Li, Director of the Industry and Planning Research Institute of CAICT, Chen Huilu proposed the initiation of credible standards for intelligent health products, urging collaboration among government, regulatory bodies, universities, research institutions, and private organizations to strengthen industry norms.
The conference has set up an exhibition area showcasing intelligent TCM diagnostic robots developed by the Smart Health Technology Engineering Center of PKU-IICSH, attracting significant interest from attendees.
Attendees agreed that with government guidance, technological and public welfare innovation, and societal involvement, the mathematical intelligence assistance for the elderly industry will provide more convenient, efficient, and humane elderly care services to the aging society, contributing to the beautiful vision of "a life of care and joy in old age."
