From July 9 to 12, 2024, under the leadership of Hou Shimin, Dean of the School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science (EECS), Peking University, Lu Yuan, Secretary of the Communist Youth League Committee, Cui Yue, Deputy Director of the Student Affairs Office, Liu Tianren, Class Advisor and Wang Jinchi, Class Counselor, a group of 25 faculty members and students visited the Lin-gang Special Area to conduct a three-and-a-half-day ideological and political practice activity. Peking University Lin-gang International S&T Innovation Center (PKU-IICSH) warmly received their arrival and organized visits to 15 platform enterprises that display the characteristics of Lin-gang Special Area, including Dishui Cloud Hall, Shanghai Platform for Smart Manufacturing, Fudan Lin-Gang Industrial Innovation Platform, Zhuguangya Institute of Advanced Science and Technology, Shanghai, GTA Semiconductor Co., Ltd., SIASUN Robot & Automation Co., Ltd., and Innovation Academy for Microsatellites of CAS. These visits gave the students a deep understanding of the Lin-gang Special Area, a pioneering area demonstrating the significant achievements of China's economic and social development in the new era. The students gained firsthand experience of the current state and future trends of cutting-edge technology industries.
On the morning of July 12, jointly established by PKU-IICSH and the School of EECS, Peking University, PKU Student Ideological and Political Practice Education Base was inaugurated at Peking University Lin-gang Party-Mass Service Center. Hou Shimin, Dean of the School of EECS presented the base plaque to Wang Yu, Executive Director of PKU-IICSH. The ceremony was witnessed by Zhang Jianfang,
Secretary of the Comprehensive Party Committee of Lin-gang Special Area, Wu Zhen, Deputy Director of the Department of Party-People Affairs, Lu Yi, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Industrial Cluster at International Collaborative Innovation Zone, Lu Yuan, Secretary of the Communist Youth League Committee at the School of EECS, and Cui Yue, Deputy Director of the Student Affairs Office at the School of EECS. Meanwhile, a group of Peking University students of "Zhixing Plan(知行计划)" was invited to participating in an internship program at Lin-gang Special Area to attend the ceremony and engage in friendly exchanges with the student group from the School of EECS.
In the future, PKU-IICSH will fully fulfill its responsibilities as the PKU Student Ideological and Political Practice Education Base and continue to lead outstanding students from the School of EECS at Peking University to gain in-depth knowledge of the Lin-gang Special Area during each summer vacation, giving support to the talent attraction at Lin-gang Special Area by building a talent-friendly environment. It will allow more PKU students to experience the vibrant and dynamic "Young City for the Youth " that Lin-gang represents. Meanwhile, through practice, the students will deepen their understanding of how technological achievements are implemented and industrialized, and contribute to high-quality development. PKU-IICSH will strive to provide more and better internship and employment opportunities from the frontier technology industries for PKU students.
About PKU Student Ideological and Political Practice Education Base
In response to the important instructions from General Secretary Xi Jinping at the seminar with teachers and students of Peking University and his speeches on strengthening ideological and political education in universities and colleges, Peking University has launched the PKU Student Ideological and Political Practice Education Base project. This initiative closely aligns with the university’s fundamental mission of fostering virtue through education and focuses on enhancing practical education to promote educational reform comprehensively. It aims to guide students to follow the principle of “Patriotism, Aspiration, Truth-seeking, and Practice” and to cultivate successive generations of capable young people with sound moral grounding, intellectual ability, physical vigor, aesthetic sensibility, and work skills who will fully develop socialism and carry forward the socialist cause. The project is overseen by a leadership group dedicated to the construction of the PKU Student Ideological and Political Practice Education Base. Through ideological and political practice activities emphasizing the spirit of “honoring commitment and taking practical actions, and becoming a man of action,” the project encourages young PKUers to engage deeply in grassroots practice, deepen their understanding of national conditions and people’s conditions, and profoundly grasp the mission of youth while enhancing their comprehensive abilities. The Ideological and Political Practice Education Base is co-established by various departments and partner organizations, including government agencies, legally established enterprises, or social organizations.
About the School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science, Peking University
The School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) was established at Peking University in 2002, based on the former Department of Electronics, Department of Computer Science and Technology, Institute of Microelectronics, and Center for Information Science. It has established 6 primary disciplines: Computer Science and Technology, Information and Communication Engineering, Software Engineering, Integrated Circuit Science and Engineering, and Intelligence Science and Technology, three of which including Electronics Science and Technology, Computer Science and Technology, and Software Engineering were selected in the "double first-class disciplines". In the fourth round of national higher education discipline evaluations in 2017, Computer Science and Technology was rated “A+” level, and Electronics Science and Technology and Software Engineering were rated “A” level. The School of EECS has 5 majors that have been selected for the Construction of National First-class Undergraduate Majors, namely Electronic Information Science and Technology, Computer Science and Technology, Microelectronics Science and Engineering, Intelligent Science and Technology, and Software Engineering. It was also granted to construct the National Integrated Circuit Industry-University Cooperation Innovation Platform. The School of EECS and the four disciplinary schools currently have 8 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 5 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (including double employed academician), 14 distinguished professors of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program, and 26 winners of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars of China.
Currently, the School of EECS has 10 undergraduate majors and over 1,600 students. The Electronic Information discipline covers five majors: Electronic Information Science and Technology, Electronic Information Engineering, Microelectronics Science and Engineering, Integrated Circuit Design and Integrated Systems, and Applied Physics. The Computer Science and Technology discipline covers another five majors: Computer Science and Technology, Intelligent Science and Technology, Software Engineering, Data Science and Big Data Technology, and Information and Computing Science.
