On the evening of October 28, 2024, the 15th lecture of Peking University Dishui Lake Lecture Hall (PKU-DSLLH) was successfully held. Professor Xiang Yong, a doctoral supervisor of the School of Arts, Peking University, and Dean of the Institute of Cultural Industry, Peking University, was invited to give a lecture titled Where Art and Science Meet — Exploring the Trend of New Cultural and Creative Products through “Black Myth: Wukong”（《艺术与科学的交汇——从〈黑神话：悟空〉看新文创的发展潮流》）. This lecture took place at the Lin-gang Children's Palace and opened a mental journey of how art and science integrate.

Professor Xiang introduced the lecture by focusing on the high-profile game "Black Myth: Wukong," providing an in-depth analysis of the basic characteristics of new cultural and creative products. Through extensive references and clear explanations, Xiang systematically elaborated on the innovative elements, capabilities, and paths for integrating culture and technology in the new era. Using rich and vivid cases of AI-created artworks, Xiang deeply explored the future trends and infinite possibilities for new cultural and creative products in the context of digitization.

Professor Xiang emphasized that art and technology are not opposites but closely related. We need to search for the correlation between them in both daily lives and works—whether intentionally or spontaneously. And then, we can enter the stage of perceiving the relationship between art and science consciously. Xiang stated that the future belongs to those who can raise questions and understand prompt engineering, as they will become the "cross-disciplinary art experts" of the new era.

During the Q&A section, Professor Xiang addressed questions from the audience, such as “The trends of art and technology integration,” “How to enhance the ethical consciousness of AI,” and “How to avoid homogenization in AI-created artworks.” He shared insights based on his research and practical experiences, fostering a lively discussion.

Bao Lei, Member of the Party working committee and Secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection of Lin-gang Special Area, attended the event and presented Prof. Xiang Yong with a commemorative plaque as the fifteenth lecturer of PKU-DSLLH. Over 400 audiences, including personnel from the related divisions of Lin-gang Special Area Administration and Peking University Lin-gang International S&T Innovation Center (PKU-IICSH), Peking University alumni, and online registered participants, attended the lecture in person. Approximately 10,000 online audiences watched the lecture through live broadcasts.

Before the lecture, Prof. Xiang conducted an on-site inspection of PKU-IICSH, visited the Party-Mass Service Center, the PWA Instrumentation & Service Center for Biomedicine, and expressed his best wishes for the center's development.

Initiated with the support of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone Lin-gang Speacial Area Administration (hereinafter referred to as Lin-gang Special Area, or LSAA), PKU-DSLLH is a collaborative effort involving PKU-IICSH, Peking University Office of Science and Technology Development, and Office of Humanities and Social Science, and enjoying an active participation from Peking University Press, Peking University Alumni Association, and other relevant offices and departments. Leveraging Peking University's profound academic foundation and expert resources in the humanities and social sciences, PKU-DSLLH focuses on key areas including economic development, humanities and arts, and social governance.

Since August 2023, PKU-DSLLH has been hosting monthly lectures featuring renowned professors or expert scholars from Peking University, who provide specialized lectures and engage in in-depth discussions with residents in Lin-gang. This initiative aims to facilitate the concentration of high-quality humanities and social science resources from Peking University in Lingang, effectively enhancing the cultural image and urban competitiveness of the Lin-gang Special Area.
